Military Families

Welcome to the Southwest ISD/McAuliffe Middle School (McA) family! Our goal is to make your move to our district/campus as smooth as possible. Southwest ISD/McA supports military-connected students and their families to ease the challenges they face due to transitions. Frequent mobility often affects students' educational, social, and emotional well-being. We provide strategies and opportunities for success to create a positive school climate that addresses the needs of military-connected students. We intend to give military-connected students the quality education they deserve.

Relocation Information

Transition Program
- McA partners each new student with a "buddy" through the Student 2 Student (S2S) program. This peer supports the military-connected child with their new transition to McAuliffe Middle School.
  - S2S is a peer-to-peer student-led program that brings military and civilian students together to welcome new students, create a positive environment for all, support educational opportunities, build connections through service, and ease transitions.

Clubs & Organizations
- McA hosts an array of clubs and organizations, such as, but not limited to (ask for more information from any front office staff):
  - Gaming Club

  - Student Ambassadors
  - National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)
  - Student Council
  - Book Club
  - Sports (7th/8th grade): Volleyball, Football, Cross Country, Basketball, Tennis, Track, Soccer
Tutoring Opportunities
- Contact your child’s teacher for exact tutoring days and times.
  - Please note that bus transportation is provided a couple of days a week for tutoring services
- Tutor.com/military is a no-cost online tutoring and homework help service that is available 24/7 to U.S. military & their families

Mental Health Support/Counseling Services

McA Military Liaison

The campus-based military liaison serves as an advocate for the military community and integrates the military student into campus. Provides resources and program information support to military families. Interacts with military families and students. Serves as the primary point of contact for school-related matters, assists military families with educational issues, coordinates with local school systems and forges partnerships between the military, community and schools. They oversee staff development initiatives and coordinate a range of events, such as Purple Up Activities, Veterans' Day Programs and Military Child Appreciation Activities.

They specialize in serving military families with PreK-12 school age children and are able to provide information about the local school system and community. The liaisons will support parents with the Interstate Compact for the Education of Military Students interpretation, serve as a link between military families and ensure maximum educational opportunities for academic success.

The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children

The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children (Military Compact) exists to strengthen transitions and close educational gaps as military children move to a new school district in another state. Texas has been a member of the Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission (MIC3) since 2009. As of 2014, all 50 states, including the District of Columbia, have joined the Military Compact. The compact applies to Active Duty Service Members, National Guard, Veterans medically discharged or retired for one year, and members who die on active duty. [TEA, 2004]
